Yes, as confessed previously, I am a collector. Not a hoarder, as there really is a difference! I like to collect little things and skeleton keys are small enough to qualify, but they are not always small enough for me! My collection ranged from 1 1/2″ to 5 1/2″ but I really wanted one that measured less than 3/4″… so I made one! I painstakingly formed, carved, filed and sanded a little skeleton key until it was just right. Then I made a mold of it and sent it off to the caster so it could be cast in sterling silver and in brass.
The tiny skeleton key charm, which measures just over 5/8″ in length, is just perfect to slip onto a chain, alone, or with a few other charms…
personally, I like the extra interest with a cluster of charms.
Besides being functional, keys have always been highly symbolic…the ancient Greeks used one key as a symbol for knowledge and life. In heraldry, the key is a symbol of knowledge and of guardianship, and of dominion.
Then I designed a bracelet around my own demands in a” wear every day comfortable bracelet” and I call it “the keys to the kingdom” bracelet since it met every specification I required. I learned that a gold and silver key crossed is a papal emblem of authority and translates to mean the “keys to the kingdom of heaven.”
Did you know that three keys together have meaning, too? It is said that three keys worn together open doors… the doors of wealth, health and love! It only makes sense to wear the three tiny skeleton keys necklace every once in a while!
I wish you health, wealth and love whether you’re wearing three keys or not!
And do keep collecting!
